Complete Book of Throws: ed. Jay Silvester, Human Kinetics Publishers, 167 pages.

The Complete Book of Throws gathers insights, throws drills and training ideas from the top throws coaches in the United States. Chapter 1 covers the biomechanical fundamentals of all throws while Chapter 2 delves into the critical area of strength and conditioning for throwers. This section comes complete with illustrated exercises and sample training plans. The section on torso conditioning is particulary well done. Chapters 3-6 cover the actual event areas and are authored by prominent coaches in the field including Jeff Gorski, USATF chairman for men's javelin development, Don Babbitt of the University of Georgia, Kent Pagel (Louisiana State) and former US National Team coach Ramona Pagel. The format is this section is structured for consistency with each chapter containing a breakdown of the skill into its component parts, throwing drills and training drills, event-specific strength conditioning and finally a sample training program.

The Complete Book of Throws provides a step-by-step progression through the throws and is an excellent resource for coaches of both developing and experienced athletes. This a great addition to the library of any throws coach.
