Cassandra was the top ranked bantam in the 100m, long jump and high jump in 2005 and made the Legion team as a bantam-aged athlete in the high jump.

The highlight of Dustin's summer was a chance to race the 800m at the International Hershey Final in Hershey, PA. He also excelled at cross-country, finishing third in the junior men's division.

Midget Female
Allison Trenholm
Hometown: Antigonish
Club: Antigonish Highland Society
Coach: Bernie Chisholm

Allison showed her versatility with good performances in events ranging from 800m-3000m. She was the top ranked midget in the 1500m and 3000m last year and represented Nova Scotia at the Legion Championships.

Jack MacGillivray

Coach: Gary Keddy

Jack had an outstanding season in 2005, first setting a new Nova Scotia midget record of 4:09.10 in the 1500m before going on to set a new 3000m record of 8:54.84 at the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic. His summer reached a peak at the Royal Canadian Legion National Championships where he came away with a double gold medal performance in the 1500m and the 3000m. In the process of winning the 1500m, he also set a new NS record of 4:07.38. He capped off the meet by contributing to the silver-medal winning team in the sprint medley.

Juvenile Female
Jenna Martin

Jenna had a great indoor season in 2005 with records in the 55m, 60m, 200m and long jump, three of which were also junior records. Although hamstring injuries prevented her from competing at many meets in the summer, she still produced the top Nova Scotia results in the 200m, 400m and long jump in 2005.

Robert Winslow
Hometown: Dartmouth

Robert Winslow had an outstanding season in 2005, smashing through the 2:00 minute and 4:00 minute barriers for the first time in the 800m and 1500m. This newfound speed also translated into a record performance as he claimed the Nova Scotia juvenile record in the 3000m. His season was highlighted by a gold medal win in the 3000m at the National Legion Championships and a silver in the 1500m.

Junior Female
Kelsey Best
Hometown: Waterville
Club: Launchers Athletics
Coach: Steve Wohlmuth

Kelsey made a leap to national prominence with a silver medal performance at the Canadian Junior Championships in July. Her improvement over the past year has been enormous, with a full eight meters added on to her personal best. Her success at the Junior meet led to a berth on the national team which represented Canada at the Pan Am Junior Championships.

Jake Gallagher
Hometown: Bedford
Club: Dartmouth Athletics

Jake had the distinction of racing on two national teams, in different disciplines, in 2005. His first experience was at the World Junior Cross-country Championships in late March. He then began his outdoor season winning the difficult triple of 800m, 1500m and 5000m at the NSSAF Championships. His double medal performance at the Canadian Junior Championships, silver in the 5000m and bronze in the 1500m, ensured selection to his second national team of the year. Jake competed at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Windsor before ending his long season with a personal best in the 800m at the Canada Games.

Senior Female
Adrienne Power
Hometown: East Jeddore
Club: Swift Athletics
Coach: Peter Lord

Adrienne finished her university career with three gold medals at the 2005 CIS Championships in the 60m, the 300m and the 4x200m. Her performance of 37.35 established a new CIS record for this event. She established a new NS record in the 200m in her first race of the outdoor season before running for Canada at the Penn Relays in both the 4x100m and the sprint medley. In July, she became the first Nova Scotia athlete to win a track title at the Canadian Championships in over 30 years. Her 200m win came two days after setting a NS senior record in the 100m. She finished her season with competition at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey. She reached the 200m semi-finals with a NS record of 23.62 while also running on the 4x100m and 4x400m teams. Her performances also garnered her Development Card status with Athletics Canada.

Senior Male
Eric Gillis
Hometown: Antigonish
Club: Antigonish Highland Society
Coach: Bernie Chisholm

Eric had great success in both cross-country and track during the 2005 season. He raced for Canada at the World Cross country Championships in France in late March. Although he had some success in the West Coast Series of races, he saved his best for later in the season, winning a bronze in the 5000m at the Canadian Senior Championships and then heading overseas to the European tour. Eric turned in some remarkable performances, setting anew NS record in the 1500m and taking over 20 seconds off his 5000m best to establish a provincial record in that event as well. His Canadian Championships finish and his 5000m result also led to his first ever Development Carding from Athletics Canada.

Coach of the Year
Gary Keddy
Club: Dartmouth Athletics

Gary has played an important role in the development of many of the province's top middle distance athletes over the years and his athletes once again performed exceptionally well in 2005. Jake Gallagher ran to two medals and a national team position at the Canadian Junior Championships. His athletes also won five individual medals at the Legion Track and Field Championships in August including two by Jack MacGillivray, two by Robert Winslow and one by Sebastien Flynn. One of his youngest charges, Dustin Chambers, was one of only two athletes from Nova Scotia selected to attend the Hershey International Final. Dominique Roy and Flynn Regan also contributed to the Atlantic Region Team that picked up a bronze medal at the Canadian Junior Cross-country Championships in December.

Eric Joy

In addition to Eric's work at a starter in many races on the Nova Scotia circuit, he has also performed a great deal of work behind the scenes to make sure things were set up properly before the races began. This included overseeing the set-up for the FinishLynx timing system and the wind gauge systems.
