Making Ethical Decisions

Club Coach

CLUB COACH COURSE DESCRIPTION

This workshop is designed to prepare coaches to coach a specific event group in a club environment or coaches who are coaching in a school environment and wish to gain more knowledge in a specific event group. The athletes coaches will be working with at this level will range in age from 15 to 17 years old; the modules are designed to meet the needs of coaches who are working with athletes in a specific event group area in a club setting. In the Club Coach workshop, participants will select an event group to specialize in: Sprints/Relays/Hurdles; Throws, Jumps or Endurance. In the fall of 2009 Wheelchair Racing will also be an area of specialization offered.
The Club Coach workshop consists of both generic and event specific activities. The generic sections occur (in a weekend format) on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. If a coach wishes to take more than one specialization then they may do that and only attend the event specific sessions once they have completed the entire Club Coach Workshop once.
The outcomes/modules presented in this workshop are: Support to the Athlete in Training, Design a Sport Program, Analyze Performance and Support to Athletes in Competition. Evaluation for certification is based on a series of outcomes, which can be found in the outcomes section on the list of options under Club Coach. Coaches who wish to be evaluated should contact their provincial branch to arrange an evaluation. Evaluation costs approximately $100 and can be completed online for coaches who are in a rural area or more than 100 km from an accredited evaluator.

Run Jump Throw

RUN, JUMP, THROW COURSE DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Run, Jump, Throw Instructor workshop is to train Instructors and Coaches to teach fundamental motor skills in the areas of running, jumping and throwing. Participants in the Run, Jump, Throw Instructor Course will be exposed to the technical progressions used to teach running, jumping and throwing skills as well as essential information in the areas of safety, risk management and ethical decision-making. In addition, basic teaching and learning methodologies will be presented.
As a collective, the course material represents important foundational pieces that must be integrated into instruction and coaching practice to ensure the well-being of all participants. In the new NCCP, instructors and coaches who wish to be certified will be required to be evaluated in a number of outcomes, including: Ethical Decision-Making, Analyzing Performance, and Support to Athletes in Training. The evaluation process reflects both Athletics Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada Standards. Instructors who have completed the Run, Jump, Throw Instructor Course will be recorded in the Coaching Association of Canada database. Upon successful completion of the course the Instructor will be granted “trained” NCCP RJT status. When the Instructor successfully completes the Rum, Jump, Throw Evaluation, the Instructor will be granted “certified” NCCP RJT status.
